Energy efficiency improvements for your home

We’re committed to improving the energy efficiency of our homes. We’ve invested in a dedicated team and specialist contractor support to make this happen for you. Your home could be brought up to modern and future energy standards, and feel more comfortable to live in.

Ways we improve the energy efficiency of homes

Here are some of the main steps we may take to improve your home. These are examples only. We will choose what works best for your property. 

External wall insulation

We add an insulating layer to the outside of your home, finished with a render coat. This reduces heat loss and can also refresh the look of your home. You do not need to be at home while this work takes place. 

Cavity wall insulation

Insulation is injected into the wall cavity to reduce heat loss. It is usually done in two stages and causes minimal disruption. 

Getting the basics right

Sometimes the most effective changes are simple ones. This might include replacing windows and doors that let in draughts, or installing energy‑saving lighting. 

Mechanical ventilation

As homes become more airtight, ventilation helps manage airflow, reduce condensation, prevent damp and improve indoor air quality. Ventilation points are usually installed in the kitchen and bathroom.

How the process works

We aim to improve your home’s energy performance in less than a year. Here’s what happens.

1. Survey

We assess your home’s current energy performance and identify ways we can help. We only need access to your home during the survey appointment. 

2. Planning

We design improvements tailored to your home. This may involve one change or several. Some work may need planning permission, and we’ll take care of that. 

3. Scheduling

We agree the timing of the work with you and explain what will happen before anything begins. 

4. Work

Approved contractors carry out the improvements. The time needed will depend on what has been agreed. 

5. Aftercare

We make sure you understand how to use your new energy‑saving features and that you’re happy with the results. 

Our energy efficiency strategy

We want all homes to meet a basic energy-efficiency standard by 2030.

To get there, we will focus on the homes that need the most support first. Our goal is for all homes to reach an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C by 2030, unless it is not technically possible or cost‑effective.

About 70% of Riverside homes already meet, or are above, this level.

You will be able to see the EPC for your home once it is lodged.

How we choose which homes need work

We are carrying out a full survey of our homes. This helps us find out which ones may be able to get government funding for energy‑efficiency improvements.

  • During the survey, we check each home against government rules to see if it qualifies for funding.
  • Once the survey is complete, we will look at how your home performs. We will then decide if it needs any energy‑improvement work.
  • If your home is selected, we will contact you to arrange a survey. This survey helps us understand which measures are right for your home.
