Affordable Loans

Need a loan but can’t get help from the bank?

Don’t worry, there are services which can help, even if you have a poor credit history. Doorstep lenders can cost more than you think… did you know that many doorstep lenders charge over 250% APR on their loans!

There is an alternative. Whether you need help with unexpected outgoings or to cover the cost of bills, birthdays or Christmas, then give your local Credit Union* a try.

Credit Unions are not-for-profit community organisations run by members, for members. If you live or work in an area with a Credit Union you can start saving with them and you may also be eligible to take out an affordable loan.

* Important information about compensation arrangements
Credit Unions are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme
(FSCS) which can pay compensation to depositors if a credit union is unable to
meet its financial obligations. Most depositors – including most individuals and small businesses – are covered by the scheme. In respect of deposits, an eligible depositor is entitled to claim up to £50,000. For further information about the scheme (including the amounts covered and eligibility to claim) please ask at your local credit union, refer to the FSCS website or call 0800 678 1100.

To find your nearest credit union visit the ABCUL website.
