Factory visit for applicant Nathan to see our modular homes first-hand

Work is on-going as Riverside Scotland delivers Scotland’s largest social modular housing development in South Ayrshire. The project is being delivered by Riverside Scotland and Connect Modular, a division of The Wee House Company in Dundonald, delivering 63 brand new affordable homes with a blend of house types, including one bedroom flats, three bedroom houses and two bedroom amenity bungalows.

The first families are expected to move into their new homes by the end of this year and Riverside Scotland will work with South Ayrshire Council Housing services over the coming weeks to identify potential tenants.

South Ayrshire Council housing applicant Nathan Cairns, and his wife Lauren, were selected to accompany Heather Anderson, Head of Service Delivery at Riverside Scotland, and Jacqueline Gillies-Craig, Housing Options Team Leader, for a tour of The Wee House Company’s Ayrshire factory to see first-hand the modular homes being designed and fabricated.

The modular homes are 90% complete when they depart the factory with kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing and electrics installed, facilitating a significantly shorter build programme and earlier occupancy. In comparison to a traditional build project, fabrication under factory conditions diminishes waste, improves quality, negates the impacts of adverse weather and allows for overlap of site preparation and build phases – a more efficient process all round.

Nathan was amazed at just how quick and efficient the fabrication process is: “My wife and I really enjoyed seeing the new properties being built in the factory and getting an overview of the development process. We couldn’t believe it only takes approximately five weeks to build the modules before they are moved to site.”

Heather said: “This is a really exciting development for us – our first in South Ayrshire and our first modular housing project. As such we are really keen to track the progress of the build and thought it would be good to give one of our prospective tenants the opportunity to see how the modules are made.

“We are committed to meeting social housing demands across Ayrshire, through projects like this that offer good value for our customers and can be delivered efficiently, while keeping the standard of homes very high. We look forward to welcoming customers into their new homes.”
